Mongla Port Municipality at a glance

Mongla Port Municipality,

Bagerhat About 55.00 km from Khulna in the southernmost part of Bangladesh, very close to the sea (about 50.00 km) is the second seaport of Bangladesh. Mongla Port Municipality has immense potential. This municipality is very important for many reasons. Especially the Sundarbans, which is known as the largest mangrove forest in the world, due to its proximity to the Mongla Port Municipality, a natural resource, attracts a large number of foreign tourists during the spring and winter seasons. Moreover the sights of the travel thirsty such as; Hiran Point, Akram Point, Dublarchar, Alor Kol, Harbaria, Karamjal, Katka, Kachikhali, Tiger Point, Jaymonirghol, and many places in the Sundarbans are visited by tourists from different parts of Bangladesh. Due to which this municipality is very important to different regions of Bangladesh and different countries but despite its immense potential, this important municipality has become progressively backward due to lack of development and efforts. Since the creation of the municipality in 185 years, it has been plagued by various problems due to lack of proper development. The municipality was the most backward due to the unplanned activities and boundless indifference of the past municipal councils. No pastor has been added to the municipal prosperity in the progress of development. In the past, around 2000, some roads and drains, culverts as well as a bus terminal and a kitchen market were built which are of no use for the economic development of the municipality. The road ghats and infrastructures of that time were almost destroyed due to the devastating cyclone Sidr and tidal wave. Especially the unplanned drainage system and the lack of switch gates in the canals flowing through the municipality is a major problem of the municipality. Due to which, when the roads and ghats of the municipality are submerged under 1/2 foot of water during high tide, there is no limit to the suffering of the people. And the misery of the road ghats is due to the fact that many people are paralyzed in various accidents on the way of people and vehicles. As a result of the tireless efforts of the councilors, municipal officials / employees after the present council came to power, I have been able to upgrade the municipality to first class and work has been undertaken to expand the area by another 2.43 sq km. In order to build a well-planned city, we have taken a wide road free from traffic jams, railings of SS pipes along the roadsides and aesthetic sidewalks wrapped in ceramic bricks which will enhance the beauty of the municipality. Most importance has been given to improved drainage system which will free the municipality from waterlogging. Adequate street lighting has been provided along various roads of the municipality. Garbage removal system under the direct supervision of ward councilors by hiring different ward based sweepers, regular spraying at different times of the municipality with fogger machine for mosquito eradication, a part time MBBS doctor has been hired to provide better health care. Services are being provided to the poor citizens on a regular basis free of cost. Various initiatives have been taken for financial entertainment. The decision has been taken to set up a children's park for the mental development of the gentle boys / girls of the municipality. Various tree planting projects have been taken up to maintain the balance of the environment. Arrangements are being made to recruit Pau police considering the safety of the citizens. All sectors of the municipality have been included in the computerized system. People's money is being received through banks without being received directly. The office has been equipped with state-of-the-art close circuit circuit cameras, state-of-the-art time attendance machines and the provision of internet facilities and modernization of municipal office activities through internet.
